(north side)
6/127 Coulston House with
Farmhouse. Late C18. Stucco on brick, Welsh slate 2-span hipped
roof, brick stacks. Two-storey, 5-window south front. Central
door with 6 fielded panels and fanlight in Doric portico, two 12-
pane sashes either side. First floor has three sashes and two
blind windows, cornice to plain blocking course. Right return has
three sashes to ground floor and two sashes to first floor. Left
return has three sashes to ground floor, two sashes and one blind
window to first floor. Rear has one 6-panelled and one half-glazed
door and sash to ground floor, within slated verandah, two sashes
and one blind window to first floor.
Interior has central entrance hall with semi-circular fluted arch
to stair hall; open well stairs with cast-iron balustrade to open
treads, wreathed mahogany handrail, landing with balustrade and
four fluted columns with stylised Corinthian capitals. Original
joinery; 6-panelled doors in moulded architraves with rosettes,
window architraves with consoles and shutters.
Attached to rear are ranges of good contemporary outbuildings;.
brewhouse with planked doors and casements to rear right, 2-storey
dairy and cheese room with margin-pane casements and 6-panelled
door to left, both English garden wall bond brick with slate roofs
and verandahs to front. Cobbled yard divided in two by low brick
wall, single-storey ranges of open-fronted sheltersheds and
workshops to north yard, including a forge in north west corner,
complete with fittings.
