6/129 Old Manor Cottage
Detached house. Early C17, late C17 rear wing. Square-panelled
timber-framing, half-hipped thatched roof, brick stacks. T-plan,
entrance now to rear. Two-storey, 3-window road front. Ground
floor has two 2-light, single and 3-light casements, first floor
has three 2-light and single leaded light, north bay to left is
addition of late C17. Right return rebuilt in brick with single
light to attic. Left return has 2-light casements. Rear of main
range has half-glazed door, leaded light and 2-light casements to
right part, left part has planked door in thatched porch and 2-
light casements. Rear wing has central ribbed door in thatched
canopy on north side with 2-light or 3-light casement either side,
eyebrow dormer with 2-light casement to right, south side has 2-
light casements.
Interior has deep chamfered beams with stepped stops, timber-framed
partitions and some plank and muntin partitions to early C17 range,
chamfered beams in later C17 wing. Middle room of main range has
blocked open fireplace, spice cupboard carved with date 1701 and
initials F M; parlour at south end has C18 bolection moulded
fireplace with chip-carved panels over cupboards either side.
Winding stairs against front wall with finely carved newel post,
first floor has planked doors with wooden latches, chamfered beams,
exposed jowled main post of timber-frame. Roof of original range
has 3 unequal bays; trusses with cambered collars, 2-bay roof of
addition to north.
