Description

COURT STREET
1.
5411
(South West Side)
Block to north west of
Stone Mill
ST 8557 6/203A
II GV

2.
Early-mid C19. Tall 3 storey and loft building of coursed and dressed rubble with
slate roof and coped verges. 2+2 ranges of 2 light casement windows with glazing
bars. Doorway to right of centre. East gable end has 4 light glazing bars casements
to 1st and 2nd floors and a large segmental headed light also with glazing bars
to loft. Once a teazle shop. Of great archaeological importance is the drop in
level to west of this building - about 10 ft into present car park - which is clearly
something to do with the mediaeval castle.

The listed Mills in Court Street form an industrial group with Home Mill Buildings,
Castle Factory and The Chapel (Offices of Samuel Salter and Co Ltd).
