Circa 1870s. Designed and built by William Smith, the local architect (ML). Romanesque
style. Stone vault formerly with segmental, or possibly triangular, dogtooth and
roll-moulded caps. Central entrance of 2 orders with pink granite nook shafts,
wide palmette caps and imposts, chevron lintel with moulded spaces and small arcade
to outer order, also a chevron band between orders. 2 blind flanking arches with
single nook shafts having similar decoration on smaller scale. Bronze plates to
the Rev. Thomas Kingston (d. 1867) with shield above and to Rev. J. D. Hastings
Trowbridge, d. 1869, also with shield above. Particularly remarkable ironwork
(by Lucas): central door with decorative hinge and handle fretwork of wrought iron
and horrid spike array in tympanum.
