1789, built by the Rev.John Clark, clothier and minister. 2 storeys, attic and
basement. Entrance front to Polebarn Road. Ashlar stone on projecting plinth
with moulded capping. Chamfered bonded quoins. Corinthian pilasters with carved
caps flanking central bay whole height. Moulded cornice and parapet with balustrade
panels over windows and flanking bays. Old tile roof. 3 segmental headed dormers.
Glazing bar sash windows. Central 1st floor Venetian window. Pair of flanking
2 storey 3-light bays, each with moulded string over windows. Central 8-panel
door in stone architrave surround under Ionic stone porch of 2 columns, wall pilasters,
entablature with pulvinated frieze, modillion cornice and pediment, approached
by wide flight of 6 stone steps returned at sides. Basement lights under flanking
bays. Brick boundary wall, now curved with weathered capping. Small square stone
gate piers with wrought iron gate of square rails with acorn tops, spear head dog
rails, cross band of circles and inverted curved top rail with acanthus ornament
under. Return to Roundstone Street continues general design - 2 windows and 3
blind panels. Rear, brick with stone dressings and small porch. South east front
once facing large ornamental grounds - also brick with stone dressings: central
1st floor sundial, 4 windows, fine doorway with cut brackets to moulded flat hood,
traceried rectangular fanlight. Formerly surmounted by cupola. The Rev. Clark's
organ from this house now in the V.& A..

Polebarn House with boundary wall, gatepiers and gates forms a group with Nos 2
to 4 (consec), No 5 (Rodney House) with stable and garden railings, Stable
Buildings and Walls, Nos 8 to 13 (consec), Roundstone Street and Nos 1 to 6 (consec)
Yerbury Almshouses, Yerbury Street.
