ST 86 NE MELKSHAM WITHOUT BATH ROAD

1/153 Stables at Shaw House

GV II

Stable block. Early C18. Rubblestone with stone slate roof.
L-plan being a central block with later transverse extension and
C19 carriage house to right, attached groom's cottage is parallel
to rear. Single storey with attic. 3 windows. Inserted
carriage entrance to right, two cross windows and door with moulded
architrave to left. String course. 3 oval wreathed oculi above.
3 hipped dormers to roof with flat coped verges and saddlestones.
Small ashlar stack to right of centre. Wing to left has cross
windows and door with moulded architrave, and eaves at string
course.
Interior: cast iron framed loose boxes with iron hay mangers.
Cobbled stone floor.
