ST 86 NE MELKSHAM WITHOUT WHITLEY
(north side)

1/217 Whitley House

II

House. Late C17 to late C19. Ashlar front has rusticated
quoins and stone slate roof with ashlar stacks; returns and rear
are rubblestone. Square plan. 2 storeys. 5 windows. Central
Classical porch and glass door. Either side are two 2-pane sashes
in plain cases. 5 sashes to first floor. Moulded cornice and
plain parapet. Left return is late C17/C18. Gable is 3 storey
with 2-light ovolo mullioned windows with drip moulds. Wing to
left has central door with moulded architrave and stone flat hood
on brackets. Either side is one 12-pane sash in moulded case.
First floor has two 12-pane sashes in moulded cases, and central
Cotswold-type attic gable has one 2-light ovolo mullioned window
with drip mould. Roof of rear wing has saddleback coped verges.
Right return is gable of C19 wing parallel to entrance front, 2
storeys, 12-pane sashes. Interior not accessible.
