Detached house. C17, altered mid C18, altered and refronted mid
C20. Limestone ashlar, flat C20 roof, stone stacks. Two-storey
over basement, 3-window front overlooking River Avon. Central
half-glazed door with Tuscan columns to frieze and pediment,
Venetian window with interlaced glazing bars either side. Moulded
string course to first floor; round-headed sash to centre with
flanking Venetian windows with interlaced glazing bars, channelled
quoins to moulded eaves cornice and plain parapet, formerly
balustraded. Right return has C20 porch, 2-light recessed cyma-
mullioned casement with dripstone to left and moulded cross windows
to first floor, three gabled stacks removed c1960 and replaced by
plain flat parapet. Left return altered C20 and flat-roofed
extensions added, 18-pane first floor sash and single-light leaded
ground floor casement. Rear facing road altered c1960; gabled C17
front replaced by plain parapet to flat roof, flat-roofed extension
added to left with reset bolection-moulded cross windows, chamfered
quoins, door with 6 fielded panels and flat stone hood on brackets
to right part, cross windows.
Interior: Despite extensive mid C20 alterations some original
features retained; fielded window shutters, doors with 4 or 6
fielded panels in panelled reveals and moulded architraves. Main
drawing room on ground floor overlooking river has C18 plaster
ceiling and cornice, elliptical arched openings with reeded
pilasters and alcoves, good C18 fireplaces. First floor plaster
ceiling with delicate foliage scroll ornament and egg and dart
margins, arched openings to windows and alcoves with reeded
pilasters.
