II
Barn with attached outbuildings. Probably early C19. Dressed
limestone, stone slate roof with coped verges on kneelers with
saddlestones. Five bays, gabled porch with segmental-headed
opening on north east front, lean-to attached to right with
segmental-headed doorway leading down to cellar, now part of
dwelling, lean-to cowshed to left of porch with planked doors and
double-Roman tiled roof. Left return with lean-to cowshed,
formerly open-fronted 2-bay cart shed with stone piers. Rear
facing south west has segmental-headed double doors to slightly
projecting centre bay, two slit vents to right. C20 addition
attached to right of front, not of special interest, but unusual
cellared lean-to right return with vents to basement level and C20
casements to ground floor. Cellar has three barrel-vaulted rooms,
now converted to separate flat.
Interior of barn has C19 king post roof trusses with V struts,
square niche in wall of porch, probably for the threshing flail
grease, counting scratch marks incised in wall of porch. Good
example of C19 stone barn.
