6/249 Barn at Westwood Manor
(formerly listed as the Tithe Barn)


Barn. C15, roof renewed c1912. Random rubble stone, stone slate
roof with coped verges with saddlestones. Nine bays. Central
gabled porch on west side with restored front with chamfered
segmental-headed doorway, double planked doors, original Medieval
pointed doorway on north side. Rear has short hipped porch with
double planked doors, shuttered loading bays either side,
buttresses with offsets and slit vents. South gable end has
central buttress with offsets and diagonal buttresses, three
arrowloops. North gable end has one large arrowloop. Interior has
stone threshing floor, niches in porch walls, probably for horns of
grease for flails, early C20 roof of collar and tie-beam trusses
with lower angle struts, three tiers of purlins. A property of the
National Trust.
