Detached house and cottage. Mid C18, altered and extended early
C20.. Limestone ashlar front, hipped stone slate roof with stone
stacks. Two-storey and attic over basement, 5-window. Central
door with 6 fielded panels and Adam-style transom light in
bolection moulded architrave, flat stone hood on brackets, two 18-
pane sashes in moulded architraves either side, segmental pediment
to inner sash and plain pediment to outer sash, two 2-light
basement mullioned casements either side. Plat band to first floor
with five 18-pane sashes in moulded architraves, pilasters carried
up to wide coved eaves cornice. Three hipped attic dormers with 2-
light casements. C17 cottage attached to right, remodelled c1910
for E.H.J. Leslie; 3-light and 4-light ovolo-mullioned casements
to ground, first and gabled attic floors, right return has 2-light
and 3-light ovolo-mullioned casements. Right return of main range
has beaded mullioned casements. Rear has 1912 gabled wing with
beaded mullioned casements, added onto rear gable of C18 stair
turret with beaded cross window and mullioned casements, main range
to right has chamfered mullioned basement window, cross window to
first floor.
Interior: Room to right of entrance has full raised panelling,
round-arched opening to foot of stairs, doors with 2 fielded panels
in bolection-moulded architraves, stone bolection-moulded fireplace
on rear wall, window shutters with fielded panels. Room to left of
entrance has full fielded panelling, shell-headed niche with tromp
l'oeil, fireplace with dentil cornice and egg and dart moulded
surround and overmantel. Good stairs up to attic with two turned
balusters per open string treads, treads have recessed moulded
panels on risers, square newels to wide ramped handrail, panelled
dado. Basement has stone vaulted roof, formerly kitchens. Good
C17-style panelling and fireplace in dining room of wing - all of
c1910. Some of the panelling said to have come from Bristol.
House enlarged and extended by E.H.J. Leslie c1910, Westhill, a
C17-style cottage added to left of front to match right hand wing,
now a separate dwelling has ovolo-mullioned casements and gabled
roof. Formal gardens laid out across the road by Leslie.
