Farmhouse. C16, C17 and C18. Random rubble stone, stone slate
roof with coped verges and stone stacks. Two-storey, 4-window
south east front. Gabled porch with moulded Tudor-arched opening
with hoodmould, spandrels of arch have initials CMB and date 1636,
Cl9 inner door with margin-glazing, 2-light casement to right and
two 2-light casements to left. First floor has four 2-light
segmental-headed casements, straight joint to left of porch. Left
return has two gabled projecting bays to C17 wing, 3-light ovolo-
mullioned casements to ground and first floors with hoodmoulds and
relieving arches, centre recessed bay has C20 casement to ground
floor, string course with relieving arch over window, 3-light first
floor mullioned casement with gable over, Tudor-arched doorway to
left leads into passage through to rear courtyard. Left gable end
of wing has 3-light ovolo-mullioned casement to first floor. Rear
of wing has planked door and door with 2 panels, 2-light ovolo-
mullioned first floor casement. Rear of main range has lean-to
pantiled verandah with C20 door with chamfered surround within,
ribbed door in chamfered case to right, C20 first floor casement.
Interior has very deeply chamfered beams with stepped stops, large
open fireplace in room to left of entrance, room over has fine
fireplace with Tudor-arched surround and cornice with three
projecting sections of entablature. Good C17 joinery including
doors with strapwork panels in ovolo-moulded surrounds,
particularly at west end of wing, also doors with 2 recessed
panels, some plank and muntin partitions. Stairs in west of two
projecting bays. Blocked open fireplace in 'hall'. This farmhouse
is unusual in that it has remained in the occupation of the same
family since C17; Baily.
