6/272 Gate piers to Midway Manor.

Gate piers. Late C19. Limestone ashlar piers with shaped recessed
panels, moulded cornice to capping surmounted by three shrapnel
shells, flanking curved walls with swept coping, relief-carved arms
set in right hand wall with motto Ratio ultima regnum. Inscription
on rear of piers recording invention of shrapnel shell by General
Shrapnel, 1785. The family built a house here in late C19; not
included in list.
