3/328 Wesleyan Chapel and Sunday School


Wesleyan chapel and Sunday School, dated 1902, rock-faced rubble
stone with ashlar dressings, slate roof and coped gables. Single
storey, L-plan with chapel gable-ended to street and school
attached to right. Free Gothic style with 5-light south window
over two small 2-light windows with hoodmoulds. South west angle
is cut away for corner entry with cusped ogee head. Pointed 6-
panel door within. South east angle has decorative ashlar porch
with ogee roof, vaulted within, flattened ogee arch to south and
narrow side arch to east. Iron gates. Moulded stone surrounds to
doors to chapel and school within. School to right has two pointed
2-light south windows and two similar to east gable. Chapel west
side has two pointed 2-light windows, and north end has short
chancel with large 4-light window.
Interior: unaltered with complete fittings, boarded 3-bay roof,
pierced vine-leaf rails to balustrades. Included as an unaltered
example of c1900 chapel design.
