Dovecote at Easton House


Dovecote. Circa late C17 or early C18. Limestone rubble with flush ashlar quoins, and raised stone eaves and stringcourse. Stone tile hipped roof with louvred lantern with pyramidal stone tile roof Square on plan. Small chamfered round-arch stone doorway on north side with plank door. High up in south wall an oval oculus in rectangular frame with balls in the spandrels and strapwork. INTERIOR lined in dressed stone nesting boxes and with stone ledges. Original roof structure with pair of queen-post trusses supporting the lantern, tenoned purlins and complete with common-rafters. Inserted loft floor with chamfered beam and joists supported in the nesting holes.
