Farmhouse, C16 and C17, rough rendered rubble stone with stone
tiled roofs. Main range is 2 storeys and attic, with coped gables
north end and rear wall stacks. Two hipped dormers. Four-window
range, C19 4-12-4 pane sashes to left bay, each floor, the other 3
bays near symmetrical with recessed hollow-moulded mullion windows
and hoodmoulds, 4-light with king mullion each side, 2-light to
first floor centre. Ground floor right window replaced by 4-12-4
pane sash. Additional 2-light window to right of centre. Central
later C17 ashlar gabled porch with fine moulded doorcase; basket-
arched doorway, architrave, cornice on scrolled brackets, shallow
pediment and low relief finials over. Moulded inner doorcase with
studded plank door. South end wall has similar 3-light mullion
window and hoodmould. Rear of main range has central projection
for truncated outside stack, wall-face stack to right. Two-light
window each floor adjoining outside stack to right, to left, single
stair light, 2 first floor 3-lights, 2 ground floor 2-lights, all
with hoodmoulds and plank door in moulded oak frame to left.
Attached at north end is 'L'-plan range connecting to 'L'-plan
stable and loft. Section north of house has adjacent ridge
stacks, coped north gable, east front plank door and casement, rear
12-pane eaves hipped dormer, door in triangular stone tiled porch,
in angle to a 2 storey north-west outhouse and 8-pane window to
right of door. Range running east has south side oak plank door in
oak frame, and one 3-light with hoodmould, ovolo-moulded. Stable
range has single light and door to south, gable to east and wing
running north with east side door and casements to both floors.
Interior: Heavy chamfered beams to north end room with moulded
stone arched fireplace. A date of 1547 said to have been found on
roof timber. House belonged to West family c1560-1609, Long family
1609-77, Speke family of Hazelbury Manor 1677-97 and to Edwards
family 1697-1913.
