House, mid to later C17, altered and refronted in later C18 and
early C19. Rendered front, rubble stone elsewhere, stone-tiled
roofs. Two and a half storeys, 3 to front. Front range has coped
gables, ridge and end stacks, parapet ramped up at ends and early
C19 dentil cornice. Raised strips in parapet as for a truncated
pediment. Four-window range, first, third and fourth bays similar
with slight irregularities, attic timber 2-light Gothic windows
(masking C17 mullions), first floor 12-pane sashes with margin-
lights in Tudor-arched surrounds with hoodmoulds, and ground floor
French windows with hoodmoulds to outer bays, all apparently c1800-
30. Third bay has arched doorway with fanlight in open-pedimented
Roman Doric surround, apparently later C18. Second bay has 2
storeys each with large 8-12-8 pane Venetian window in architrave,
also later C18. To each side of front tall early C19 pointed arch
with dentilled coping. End walls have C17 ovolo-moulded mullion
windows, 2-light with hoodmould to each floor. Rear south-east has
lean-to addition, probably late C18 for staircase with south end
Venetian window. North-east C17 rear wing with 2-light windows on
north side, coped east gable and 3-light east windows, recessed
chamfered to first floor, ovolo-moulded above. Ground floor lean-
to with door within in moulded architrave. To left is large
projecting wing of 1904 by H. Brakspear with mullion-windows and
square bay window. To right, attached at north-east angle is
range, apparently C17, with ovolo-moulded mullion windows, 3-light
to first floor east end, two 2-light to first floor south and one
3-light below, and 2-light to each floor of west end with door and
hood on brackets. West end and north side stacks. A single-storey
stone-tiled range runs north with west side C17 three-light ovolo-
moulded window to right, door and 3-light early C19 Gothic window
to left East side has 3-light early C19 Gothic window and opening
to cellar. Ridge and end stacks.
Interior: later C18 modillion cornice to room to left of door,
chamfered beam and early C19 ceiling moulding in room to right.
