House, C17 and C18, rubble stone with stone-tiled roof, ridge and
south end stacks and coped south gable. Two storeys, 'L'-plan.
West front 4-window range, formerly 2 cottages, coved eaves
cornice, 4 first floor 3-light recessed ovolo-moulded mullion
windows and hoodmoulds. Ground floor door to left with hood on
brackets, single light and 12-pane window in moulded surround, then
door in moulded architrave with pediment on brackets and two 3-
light mullion windows with hoodmoulds and relieving arches, one
ovolo-moulded, one recessed cyma-moulded. Rear has straight joint
between two sections. Left section has flush cornerstones, off-
centre curved stair tower with stone-tiled roof reaching into a
gable, one window range of 3-light windows to left, ovolo-moulded
above, recessed cyma-moulded with relieving arch below, both with
hoodmoulds, and, to right, 2-light ovolo-moulded window and
hoodmould over door with hood on brackets. Section to right has
one ground floor 2-light recessed cyma-moulded window and
hoodmould. Rear wing, probably C18, has south side door to left
and 2-window range of flush cyma-moulded 2-light windows with
dripstones. East end stack and bread oven.
Interior: north half of front range has south end massive timber-
lintel to Tudor-arched fireplace and chamfered spine beam. South
half has bolection-moulded stone fireplace with shelf and fielded
panelling to dado level. Walls here and above are stamped with
cross motif of central rose and four unicorns. Upstairs south end
Tudor-arched fireplace with fluted frieze and stone shelf. House
is said to date from 1648.
