Farmhouse, C17 altered, converted to 6 flats c1975. Rubble stone
with concrete plain tile roofs. Main range is 2-storey and attic,
'L'-plan, with moulded coping to gables, outside north end stack,
south end stack with paired diagonal shafts and C20 dormers. West
front, altered probably in early C19, has 3-window range of long
12-pane sashes. Continuous dripcourse over ground floor, stepped
over windows and central door. Additional door to left of centre
and inserted C20 circular opening to right. At left end,
projecting single storey wash-house. Rear of main range has, to
right, fine moulded doorcase, with basket-arched head and carved
spandrels. C20 door. Adjoining to left, blocked window with
hoodmould to each floor and then, to left, 2-light and 3-light
ground floor recessed ovolo-moulded mullion windows with continuous
hoodmould. Traces of blocked windows above. Rear wing has, to
south, C20 dormer and 2-window range of early C18 recessed cyma-
moulded mullion windows and hoodmoulds, two 2-lights above, 3-light
and 2-light below. East gable end has similar 2-light windows and
hoodmoulds to attic, and to 2 blocked stair lights at upper level.
Ground floor 2-light ovolo-moulded window and hood. Attached at
north end, 'L'-plan range, one and a half storey, partly C17,
altered in C19. North end chimney gable, west end gable rebuilt in
C19 red brick. East wall has two 2-light recessed cyma-moulded
windows to ground floor and single light with hood to gable. Flats
42-48 in main house, 50-52 in north end range. Locally known as
Cromwell's Barracks from tradition that Cromwell's troops were
housed here while he was at Jaggards (q.v.).
