3/71 Eastcourt House



Country house. Dated on north front 1658 with mid C18 addition,
late C19 alterations and additions and C20 extension. Squared and
coursed rubble with flush rusticated dressed stone quoins, stone
dressings and stone slate roofs; tall stone stacks with moulded
caps. L-shaped plan with C17 ranges to left and centre of north
front, C18 addition to centre rear and early C20 block to right.
C17 ranges of 2 storeys with 5-bay recessed centrepiece; C18 block
rising above centre of 3 storeys and C20 wing of 2 storeys and
attic. Fenestration to C17 ranges is cavetto-moulded cross-
mullions with hoodmoulds and 2 and 3-light mullions, particularly
to rear of C18 block. C20 wing has 12-pane sashes. Central late
C19 projecting stone porch; hipped roofs. South front of 3
elements: C20 block to left, C18 section to centre and rear wall
of C17 cross-wing to right. Sash fenestration throughout.
Central advanced section to C18 block with engaged Doric porch and
part-glazed door. Continuous string courses to C17 range,
blocking course to C18 block and bracketted cornice to C18 wing.
Interior: inaccessible, but Pevsner records a staircase with
turned balusters and a fine drawing room with decoration of c1750.
