7/7 Woodman's Lodge

II

Lodge to Grittleton estate, c1840-50, probably by J. Thomson, for
Joseph Neeld. Squared rubble stone with stone slate roof, heavy
two-step coped shouldered gables and north front outside stack with
stepped shoulders. 1½ storeys, picturesque Tudor style. North
front has chimney-breast to centre with first floor single light
and hoodmould, dripcourse each side over ground floor 2-light and
hoodmould. At right end dripcourse alters to corbelling over round
arched side entry into west porch. West end has ground floor
moulded round-arched large entry with slightly projected first
floor over and canted ashlar 3-light oriel with hipped stone slate
roof. Porch has arched openings to north and south and C20 door in
arched plain doorway. South front has centre double-shouldered
gable with single light over triangular bay and ground floor 2-
light each side with hoodmould over and dripcourse above. Arch
into porch at left end. East end has first floor ashlar triangular
oriel and ground floor door. A link wall dated 1975 connects to
original outbuilding with half-hipped roof. In link wall is reset
original front door with I.N. monogram on handle.
