St. Sampson

GV II

Group of 8 tombs, 1 bale tomb of C17, and 7 chest tombs of C18 and
C19. Limestone. From north: a) Bale tomb, unidentified. Spiral
grooved top. Skulls in end tympana. b) Chamfered table and base,
plain inscribed sides. Unidentified. c) Similar, to WILLIAM
CAMPERNOWNE; d) similar, to ELIZABETH CAMPERNOWNE; e) similar, to
- CAMPERNOWNE. f) Recessed corner balusters, to - CAMPERNOWNE. g)
and h) are slab tombs of C19. Unidentified. Bale tomb said to be
a JENNER TOMB. Jenner and Campernowne were prominent local families
in the C17 and C18.
