Mid-late C19. Two builds. Polychrome brick and Swindon stone.
Tiled roof. Main section of roughly coursed stone rubble with red
brick dressings. One tall storey basement, 4 bays expressed
externally by 4 centred arches on pilasters. At east end 3 stepped
brick pointed-arched windows with brick surrounds, stone keys and
imposts. South wall blank but for arcading; north wall 3 similar
small windows. Door in west wall abutting tower. Tower of red
brick with stone quoins and blue brick window dressings. Tall
windows on south face, shorter windows on west. From behind
parapet rises a slender square stepped upper tower with Venetian
bracketed top cornice. The brewery was at one time in the same
ownership as the Bell Hotel, High Street (q.v.) and succeeded a
more modest brewhouse in the hotel yard.
