4/41 Dogdean Farmhouse
and stable block


Farmhouse. Early C18, with rebuilding of north front c1800 and
south front is C19. English bond with stone quoins, Welsh slate
hipped roof with brick stacks. 2-span roof plan. 2 storey, 5-
window front. Door in 2nd bay from left with 3-light wooden
casement to left and one 3-light, and one 4-light casement to
right, all with segmental heads, blocked door to right. First floor
has four 3-light wooden casements and one single casement, all with
segmental heads. Left return has one 2-light casement to ground
and first floor, and attached to front left is single storey stable
block with segmental-arched windows. Attached to front right are
outbuildings of no special interest. Rear garden front of 2
storeys, 5 windows, is C19 refacing of C18 building; rendered
English bond. Central 2 storey projecting porch has canted bay
with sashes and one casement to right, to left are two casements.
First floor has four casements, some with later sashes in lights,
and one casement in two storey porch. Three-brick plat band at
first floor and ashlar quoins. Good brick stacks to rear range
have dentilled cornice to capping.
Interior: Chamfered beams with stops and timber-framed partition
with wattle and daub panels to ground floor. Good newel stairs
have vase-turned balusters and moulded rail.
