Detached house. Mid Cl7, with early C19 bay added to left of front.
Cob and flint, timber-framed first floor, tiled hipped roof, axial
brick stack, C19 addition in painted Flemish bond brick with Welsh
slate roof and brick stack to left. Cl7 lobby-entry plan, C18
corridor added to rear. 2-storey, 4-window front. Planked door in
chamfered square-headed case, now within C19 gabled porch, to right
are French windows, to left are two single casements and C19 part
has French windows. First floor has three 2-light casements with
one C20 3-light casement to C19 extension. Axial brick stack has
dentilled capping in brick. Left return has no windows. First
floor of right return has 2-light chamfered mullioned window.
Rear has one 3-light leaded casement and planked door to ground
floor of C19 extension, with 12-pane sash to first floor, main
range has two 2-light and one 3-light casement to ground floor and
three single leaded casements and one 3-light casement to first
floor; plastered timber-frame. Roof to rear has three flat-headed
dormers with 2-light casements. Attached to rear left is stable,
partly converted to kitchen, with planked doors and tiled hipped
roof.
Interior retains important Cl7 features; hall to left of front door
has fine moulded cross beams, partly cut by staircase with splat
balusters, moved from another part of the house, open fireplace has
chamfered lintel and brick jambs. Dining room to right of door has
good C18 fielded panelling and deeply chamfered ceiling beam. A
large door with 6 fielded panels, now between the hall and rear
corridor, was probably the front door, other doors with fielded
panels. Cl9 extension has fireplace with reeded surround and
paterae. The house is said to have been a falconry during the Cl9
and up to 1920s. (Unpublished records of RCHM (England),
