6/51 Chantry Cottage (formerly
listed as Gatehouse)


Former service range, now house, with entry to The Chantry (qv) C16, C17, C20.
Some coursed rubble, some squared and coursed rubble, tile roof to east, slate
roof to west. A long low block to coped verges, and with lofty and wide
throughway towards the north end. To the road, the west face has a wide opening
with C16 moulded stone jambs to a wood lintel, pair of C20 plank doors; to the
right mainly plain walling, one lofty square external eaves stack, 2 lights at
south end. East front, facing garden to The Chantry is 2 storeys, 2+2 windows;
single storey to left with two 2-light casements, then, slighly recessed
2-storey with two 2-lights at each level, then large basket-arch opening with
pair of wide half-glazed doors. The north end, beyond throughway, is the stable
block, with a 4-centred chamfered doorway.
