Mill on River Nadder with attached cottage. Late C18 mill, early
C18 cottage. Mill is Flemish bond brick with half-hipped tiled
roof, cottage is dressed limestone with collapsed thatched roof.
Mill of single storey with basement and loft, 2 windows, planked
door in chamfered wooden case to right, two 2-light leaded
casements to left; all segmental-headed openings, basement has one
2-light casement and one larger segmental-headed opening, mill race
runs through square-headed opening. Left return has 3-light
casement to main floor, 2-light to attic and larger segmental-
headed opening to basement. Rear has 2-light and 3-light
casements.
Interior retains complete mill machinery for milling flour with
water power, includes cast-iron water wheel minus paddles, cast-
iron gearing wheels with iron or wooden pegs, 2 sets of millstones
and wooden equipment such as hoppers and chutes. Partly collapsed
attached cottage of one storey and attic; two 2-light recessed
chamfered mullioned windows. Right return of mill which is
attached to cottage, also partly collapsed at time of survey (March
1985). Mill ceased to operate during 1940s.
