Gothick folly. 1762. Built by Richard James, master mason for Ralph Allen "to
improve the prospect" from Allen's town house in Bath. Pevsner states that
Colvin suggests that it was probably designed by Sanderson Miller c.1755.
Coursed squared rubble. Battlemented. Screen wall with central pointed arch
flanked by two 3-storey circular turrets; extending sideways to 2-storey square
tower at each end of the wall. Blocked lancet windows; plain and cross-loop
openings. Plaque in centre. Pevsner N., Buildings of England : North Somerset
and Bristol; 1958.
