Milepost in front of Southington

Milepost. Circa 1840. Cast-iron classical-style pillar with low
pedimented top and plinth, raised lettering to front:
SALISBURY/8/WARMINSTER/13. One of a series of cast-iron mileposts
and boundary posts on turnpikes radiating from Warminster and
manufactured by Carson and Miller, a firm of Warminster
ironfounders. This milepost may have been moved slightly during
road improvements in 1970s.
