2/88 Manor Farmhouse
Farmhouse to Little Langford model farm. Circa 1858 by S. Clarke
for Wilton Estate. Limestone ashlar, Welsh slate roof, ashlar
stacks. T-plan, Gothic style. Two-storey, 3-windowed east front
with entrance at foot of 3-stage tower in angle of wings. Three-
panelled pointed door with square hoodmould, second stage of tower
has shouldered sashes with hoodmould, octagonal upper stage has
pointed sashes with hoodmoulds with carved head terminals, zigzag
frieze to moulded eaves of polygonal roof with weathervane. Range
to right has group of three shouldered sashes to ground floor and
pair of trefoil-headed sashes to first floor. Wing projecting to
left has 2-storey canted bay with trefoil-headed sashes and
battlemented parapet, coped verge, left return has pairs of
trefoil-headed sashes, French windows, and stack with offsets.
Range to left has shouldered sashes. Right return has large
external stack with offsets, shouldered sashes to ground floor and
trefoil-headed sashes to first floor with dripstones, coped verge.
Rear has 2-storey canted bay on left and shouldered or pointed
sashes, with carved hoodmoulds, planked door, two half-hipped
dormers to attic. Attached to rear is L-shaped single storey range
of outbuildings with cast-iron horizontally-sliding windows with
arched lights, carriage house has planked double doors and sashes,
weatherboarded first floor with gabled loft door. Interior not
inspected. Unaltered example of model farmhouse with particularly
good detail, occupies prominent position overlooking Wylye Valley.
