Farmhouse. Late C17, wings added 1780s and early C19. Ashlar-
fronted, English bond brick to wings and to rear, hipped tiled
roofs with brick stacks. Two-storey, 5-window front. Central
Tuscan porch with double 6-panelled doors, 2-light casement either
side and three 2-light casements to first floor, flanking late C18
bays have 12-pane sashes to ground and first floor, moulded cornice
to hipped roofs, C17 central range has late C18 front with plat
band to castellated parapet, two hipped dormers with 2-light
casements behind. Right return has 2-storey canted dressed
limestone bay with 12-pane sashes, east rear wing has planked door,
2-light casement to left and 3-light wooden casement to right, 2-
light and single-light casements to first floor. Left return has
2-storey canted bay with sashes and French windows, partly blocked
windows to first floor, west wing has 2-light and 3-light casements
to west side. Rear of main range has tall round-arched stair
window, lower part now blocked; this inserted in raised C18
outshut, rear east wing has 2-light casements facing into courtyard
and external stack on north gable, west wing has external brick
stack facing courtyard with some light timber-framing to first
floor; 3-light leaded casement to north gable.
Interior: Central range remodelled C18, stairs in former outshut
have two stick balusters per tread and shaped tread-ends, entrance
hall has pilastered walls and elliptical arch leading to stair
hall, flagstone floors, 6-panelled doors in moulded architraves.
First floor south west room apparently unfinished with unplastered
walls and no ceiling; C17 recessed chamfered window surround
exposed in internal wall of this room, south east bedroom has Adam-
style fireplace surround. C17 range retains 3-bay butt purlin roof
and gable-end stacks. Marshwood reputedly occupied by the Wyndham
family during the rebuilding of Phillips House (q.v.), additions
and improvements made during 1780s and 1790s by-Edward Whatmore and
Elizabeth Wyndham.
