GV II

Inn. Circa 1600 with additions to front of c1700 and C19.
Timber-framing rebuilt in rubble stone with dressed limestone
additions, concrete tiled roof, brick stacks. Three-cell original
plan. Two-storey, 3-window. C20 door on south side of C18 range
with blocked door and C20 casements to left, first floor has
blocked sash with plain architrave, main range to right has two 2-
light C20 mullioned casement and blocked doorway to ground floor
and two 2-light C20 mullioned casements to first floor. Front of
C18 range to left has stone 2-storey canted bay with 4-pane sashes,
segmental-headed stone tablet with 'The Boot Inn' inscribed and
incised inscription across first floor 'BENETT AND INDEPENDENCE',
an election slogan; C16 range to left has 2 and 3-light recessed
chamfered mullioned casements. Attached to right of main front is
single-storey C19 extension with C20 bay window and polygonal roof.
Rear has cast-iron casement and pointed doorway to left, 2-light
and 3-light casements to right. First floor has 2-light mullioned
casement and wooden casements.
Interior retains some square-panelled timber-framing in wall
between original range and C18 addition. Middle room, former
parlour has deeply chamfered beam with stepped stops, open
fireplace in north room with chamfered arched lintel. South room
has chamfered beam marking position of former smoke hood, replaced
in stone.
