ST 92 NW (west side)

4/241 The Old House

Detached house. Mid C17, altered early C18. Dressed limestone,
thatched roof with half-hip to right range and coped verges to
left, gable end brick stacks. L-plan. Two-storey, 3-window main
range. C20 door in stone chamfered case to right of centre, two
3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements to left, one 3-light
recessed chamfered mullioned casement to right. First floor has
three 3-light mullioned casements. Attached to right is early C18
addition with blocked doorway and two 2-light mullioned casements
to ground floor, one 2-light mullioned casement to first floor;
all casements are leaded. Right return has early C20 mullioned
casement and planked door. Left return has blocked chamfered
lights to first floor and attic.
Interior has deep chamfered beam with ogee stops and open fireplace
with cambered timber lintel on chamfered stone jambs in parlour to
right of entrance. South room, former kitchen has C19 lowered
floor leaving steps around walls, C18 fielded panelling and shell-
headed niche and deeply chamfered-ceiling beam. C18 open string,
stairs with three turned balusters per tread. Three-bay collar
and tie-beam truss roof.
