Description

EAST KNOYLE CHURCH ROAD
ST 83 SE
(south side)
8/14 Church House (Previously listed
as Former Church Room)
6.1.66
II
Detached cottage. Probably late Medieval, altered C17 and 1938.
Dressed limestone, hipped thatched roof. C20 first floor entrance
on gable end. Two-storey, 2-window south front. Two 2-light
recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned casements. First floor has two
single-light hollow-chamfered casements; all with diamond leading,
buttress to right with offsets. Tudor-arched chamfered doorway to
right return, now below 1938 external stone stairs to inserted
first floor planked door and single leaded casement. Left return
has 2-light leaded casement to ground floor and 1930s mullioned
casement to first floor. Rear facing road is windowless, side
buttresses with offsets separated from main wall by straight
joints, evidence of a rebuild, possibly of a timber-framed
structure. Interior not accessible at time of survey (August 1986)
but said to have chamfered beams to ground floor, 3-bay roof with
tie-beam and collar trusses.
(Unpublished records of RCHME, Salisbury; survey in 1964)
