Base of market cross. C15. Worn ashlar. Stepped base supporting 2 masonry
pedestals, one bearing a weathered medieval capital, the other a much-worn
effigy of recumbent animal, perhaps a swine, or a representation of the
White Boar emblem of the Nevill family who owned the castle (qv) from 1270.
VCH, i, p 251. Scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
