12/31 Town Hall


Town Hall. Dated 1856 on gables, perhaps incorporating an earlier building.
For Lord Bolton. Rendered with ashlar dressings, Welsh slate roof.
2 storeys, 5 x 2 bays. Rusticated quoins, ashlar plinth. In centre of each
facade a doorway with cornice supported on consoles, that to west converted
to window, those to north and east with cast-iron balustered railing to
steps. Ground floor: sash windows with glazing bars, those to west and some
to south altered into shop windows. Ashlar band. On first floor: larger
sash windows with glazing bars to court room. Rendered cornice, blind
parapet. Corniced ashlar stacks at ends and between bays 1 and 2, 4 and 5.
The building is an important townscape feature of the Market Place.
