12/48 Church of St Peter and
St Paul


Roman Catholic Church. 1835. Coursed watershot rubble, stone slate roof.
Ashlar plinth, rusticated quoins. Openings have chamfered stone surrounds,
pointed-arched heads, hollow-moulded labels. To left, doorway. 3 sash
windows with glazing bars, intersecting at top. Modillion gutter brackets,
ashlar coping, ball-cote with ball finial to west gable, cross to east
gable. East window with Y-tracery and pediment treatment to gable above.
Interior: gothic tracery panelling to box pews and front of west gallery.
Plaster labels to windows (blind on north side) and east window in giant
triple-shafted surround with acanthus-leaf capitals flanked by giant blind
openings with ogee arches. Stained glass in east window by Miss Bolton.
Flat ceiling of square panels. Pevsner, North Riding.
