Belle Isle, wall, gate-piers and railings

II

House and cottage under 1 roof, now house and outbuilding, with wall,
gate-piers and railings. Early C19. Coursed sandstone, stone slate
roof. 2 storeys. House: 3 first floor windows, ashlar surrounds to
openings. Central 4-panel door in classical doorcase with plinths and
simple entablature, name 'BELLE-ISLE' painted on frieze. Resting on the
cornice, an earlier keystone inscribed 'J7 07' G FM. Added C20 glazed
porch. C20 canted bay on left of door, other windows sashes. End
stacks. Cottage on right with 1 first floor window. On ground floor:
boarded door, fixed-light 20-pane window and low fire window with stone
surround. First floor: 4-pane sash window in ashlar surround. Shaped
kneeler to right. In front of small garden, rubble wall with ashlar
coping. Gate-piers to house: monolithic ashlar obelisks. Gate-piers to
cottage: shorter obelisks set on wall. Similar obelisks at intervals in
railings. Short cast-iron railings with finial tops to bars.
