5/37 Broken Brea Crossing
Railway crossing keeper's cottage, now house. c1846. By G T Andrews for
George Hudson's Great North of England railway. Random-coursed sandstone,
Welsh slate roof. L-shaped plan, with rear range to left, 2 storeys.
Entrance front: 1 gabled bay. Pointed relieving arches over openings.
Stepped diagonal buttress to right. Ground floor, from left: C20 6-panel
door below hood-mould; window of 2 shouldered lights. First floor: window
of 2 shouldered lights. Decorative bargeboards and finials to gable. Right
return: 2 bays. Ground floor: C20 casement window; C20 single-light window
in square recess. First floor: C20 casement window below pointed relieving
arch, and above it, gable with decorative bargeboards and finials; single-
light window, and gable finials to right end. Central stack of 3 octagonal
