Stocks. C17 or C18, restored 1977. Sandstone ashlar, oak. Stone round-
headed end posts, approximately 500mm high, with vertical grooves on inner
sides. 2 horizontal boards, 1977, with 2 leg-holes, the upper board
moveable and fastened with a hasp and padlock. A small plaque on the upper
board records that new wood was supplied when the stocks were repaired in
commemoration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The juxtaposition of
stocks and market cross (qv) allowed the malefactor to sit on the lowest
step of the cross while in the stocks.
