Inn and stables, now house and cottage. Early C18, with later alterations.
Rubble, stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 2:5 first-floor windows, with a 2-
storey lean-to addition on left and rear outshut to house on right. House,
former inn,on right: cellar below right end. Quoins. Central board door in
ashlar surround with rounded inner corners to lintel. To its left, 5-step
mounting block. To its right, a cheese press weight. First and second
bays, on each floor a paired side-sliding sash window with slab lintels and
sills. On first floor in third bay a 6-pane window in ashlar surround. In
fourth bay a first-floor side-sliding sash window with slab lintel and sill.
In fifth bay on each floor, a 9-pane window in ashlar surround set in corner
of building. End stacks. Cottage, former stables,on left: paired side-
sliding sash windows with slab lintels and sills. End stack to left.
Shaped kneelers, ashlar coping to ends of range. To left, lean-to with, on
each floor, a side-sliding sash window with slab lintel and sill. Right
return: 9-pane windows in ashlar surrounds, 2 returning those in fifth bay
of front elevation. Closed as an inn in 1937. North Yorkshire and
Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group Report No 683.
