CORNFORTH HILL (north side)
Nos 4 and 5

1.8.52.

GV
II
Pair of cottages, C18.

MATERIALS: coursed rubble; Welsh slate roof; thin, hand-made brick chimneys.

EXTERIOR: the cottages form a roughly symmetrical pair of single-bayed, two-storey properties with their front doors to the centre. However, there is a slight change in stonework between the two and the right-hand (east) cottage (Number 4) has a slightly higher eaves line giving a shallower pitch to its roof. The windows are two-over-two sashes set in openings with projecting stone frames with monolithic jambs, sills and lintels, except for the ground floor window to Number 4 which has a modern projecting box bay window with a two-over-two sash. The doorways have modern part-glazed doors set beneath flat arches of voussoirs, that to Number 5 being of handmade-brick. Each cottage has a gable-end chimney stack adjoining the neighbouring property.
