Manor house. Early C18th; altered and extended late C18th/early C19th and
early C20th. Ashlar; Cotswold stone slate roof (hipped to south-west);
parapet and moulded cornice. Entrance (south-west) elevation. 2 storeys and
attics in pedimented dormers. Panelled end pilaster to right. String course.
5 bays. 18 pane glazing bar sash windows in bolection moulded surrounds which
sweep up to coved cornice; 2 windows to right are blocked; panelled aprons.
Central 6 panelled door; projecting porch with Tuscan columns and plain
entablature. To left, early C19th extension with 2 storey canted bay projects.
Garden (south-east) elevation. Early C19th. Central block of 3 storeys with
2 storey wings terminating in bow windows. 3:1:2:1:3 bays. Glazing bar sash
windows; French windows to centre 4 ground floor windows. Plat band and cill
band to bow windows. To right is a large attached mid-C19th conservatory.
North-west elevation shows further evidence of early C18th facade, mostly by
later additions, including central single storey section with embattled parapet.
Interior: Some fine plasterwork and ceilings, mostly late C19th/early C20th.
Open-well staircase with square balusters, also early C20th. The early C18th
part of the house is very similar to General Wolfe's house and St. John's Place
(the latter by Killigrew) in Bath.
