House. Dated 1767 on rainwater head. For John Pratt, racehorse owner.
Rubble with ashlar dressings, stone slate roof. 3 storeys, 5 bays, with
rear outshut. Central 6-panel door in architrave with splayed bases and
cornice on consoles. Windows in architraves; sash windows on ground and
first floors, 9-pane unequally-hung sash windows on second floor. Between
bays 3 and 4, lead rainwater head with date and 3 elephants' heads, the
unregistered coat of arms of John Pratt. Brick stack at end right.
Interior: dining room, to left of door, has C18 fireplace, shutters,
panelling, dentilled cornice and moulded ceiling beams. Sitting room, to
right of door, has octagonal panelling, probably C19, Victorian fireplace
and C18 shutters, niche and moulded ceiling beams. Cantilevered limestone
staircase with ogee-section treads and plain wrought-iron balusters. Main
bedroom: C18 fireplace. Library: C18 fireplace, shutters and moulded
ceiling beams. The Manor House forms the nucleus of an important group of
