9/37 Woodhall Park
Farmhouse. Late C17 - early C18, altered in 1828 for Christopher Alderson
Alderson. Rendered rubble, stone slate roof. 3 storeys, 4 first-floor
windows. Ground floor: between bays 1 and 2, part-glazed door in chamfered
quoined surround. In centre, side-sliding sash window, with C20 casement
windows in outer 2 bays. First and second floors: 4-pane sash windows in
ashlar architraves. To left, lead rainwater head cast with "CAA 1828".
Shaped gutter brackets. Shaped kneelers, ashlar copings. Stacks at ends
and between bays 1 and 2, 3 and 4. In right return, roofline of 2-storey
older house, with very steep pitch. In C19, Woodhall Park was tenanted by
Rev Richard Wood, vicar of Askrigg. Hartley M and Ingilby J, Yorkshire
Village (1979), p 143.
