6/72 No 1 Hartforth Village


House. Dated 1830. For the Cradock family of Hartforth Hall (qv). Coursed
rubble, artificial stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 1:3:1 bays. Quoins at ends
and flanking centre 3 bays which project slightly. Central 6-panel door in
ashlar surround with Tuscan pilasters supporting open pediment. Sash
windows with glazing bars, projecting sills and deep lintels, ground-floor
windows of 16 panes, first-floor windows of 12 panes unequally hung. Centre
3 bays have pediment with oval date plaque in tympanum. Stone gutter
brackets to outer bays. Hipped roof. Corniced ashlar stacks between first
and second, fourth and fifth bays.
