Description

MELSONBY EAST ROAD
NZ 2008-2108 (south side)

13/165 Gates and gate piers
adjoining north-east rear
range of The Old Rectory

GV II

Gates and gate piers. Mid C18. Sandstone ashlar piers, wrought-iron gates.
Piers of square plan, with bases and abaci. Gates with swept and scrolled
tops and square-section bars with knobs to intermediate lower bars. The
gateway does not seem to be in its original position, as the adjoining
building has clearly once extended onto its site, but the gateway
contributes to the setting of The Old Rectory.
