Farmhouse. Dated 1847. For the Duke of Northumberland. Sandstone rubble
with ashlar dressings, Westmorland slate roofs. Jacobethan style.
Irregular plan. 2 storeys and loft, 1:1:1 bays, the central bay projecting
and gabled. Tudor-arched doorway. Double-chamfered mullion windows with
original diamond glazing. Of similar style and quality to 3 other farmhoues
on the estate of the same period, viz Manor Farm, Aldbrough St John (qv);
Carlton Green, Carlton (qv); Wharton's Farmhouse, Melsonby (qv). Close
inspection not permitted at time of resurvey.
