House, 1635 (datestone). Hammer dressed stone with stone slate roof. Two storeys and
3 ample bays. Quoins and cyma moulded ground floor dripstone. Coped gables with
kneelers bearing elaborate finials. To ground floor double chamfered stone mullion
windows of 5 and 6 lights (the latter with a double central mullion) and a modern
2-light chamfered stone mullion window in the fire window position. To first floor
similar windows of 4 lights (with king mullion), 5 and 2 lights. Three chimneys.
Smaller range set back at right-hand side with 3-light flush square mullion window and
moulded surround to door. The lintel is inscribed "1635 IEMS". The initials ES also
occur on one of the finials.
Interior. In main room large fireplace with segmental head and cyma surround, which
carries the main ceiling beam. Some beams have Victorian stencilling. Upstairs is a
door of 2 arched panels which may be original. The roof has an arch-braced collar
beam truss, heavily pegged.
