Peat Gill Head

Farmhouse, 1680 (datestone). Coursed rubble and stone slate roof. Two storeys and 2
windows, all unmoulded stone surrounds with modern casements. To left of these is an
enclosed stone porch with chamfered triangular headed doorway. This has massive jambs
and a finely decorated lintel of the embattled type with "RMW 1680" interspersed with
stars and fleurs-de-lys. Swords are carved in the spandrels. The porch may have been
rebuilt as it covers an opening in the front facade with its return wall. At rear is
a small 2-light chamfered stone mullion window. Two chimneys, one over a massive, but
now enclosed chimneybreast inside, opposite the inner doorway.
